What did you study? Where? Fashion design at the IED but I haven’t finished it.

How was your experience in your center? It was more complicated than I thought because I had to combine work with study.

What made you opt for fashion design? I had been customizing my wardrobe for years since high school, and when I got to choose what to study, it was clear. I’ve always wanted to learn the techniques to create from scratch and not from pieces of my wardrobe.

What can you tell us about Maarouf 103? Maarouf 103 is an inclusive company, where everything is done by hand in small workshops in Madrid. With it I try to be as sustainable as possible and not to waste materials or pollute the planet.

And from the Le Manoir collection? This collection is very different from anything that has come before. Born from a renovation, he tried to create unique and “rare” pieces with everyday and domestic materials, it is a clear example of contrast. Upholstery materials give a lot of play and are always forgotten in fashion, that’s why I wanted to give this collection a special touch by renovating carpets, curtains, duvets …

Where did you make the garments? Do you do the whole process yourself? I do the whole creative process myself. And also for much of the clothing, I have a small workshop where they help me resize the sizes and finish the finishes.

Do you think it is difficult to create your identity in a world as saturated as this? It’s super hard to make room for yourself and I feel like everything is made up today, although I’m confident people are individuals and we always transfer the staff to the professional. Over time, I will create an identity of my own and very much mine.

Which person profile do you focus the Maarouf 103 models on? I think Maarouf 103 is all about women and people from the LGTBIQ + collective, but it’s true that I’d like to open up more to the male market.

Could you define the style of your projects? I think my models are quite versatile, but they are more focused on runways, magazines or red carpets.

What are your expectations in the fashion world? To be honest, I have high expectations, I feel it will be a long and slow process but it will work with a lot of work.

“I feel it will be a long and slow process, but it will work with a lot of work.”

What are your main sources of inspiration? I feel very free in all the collections that I make and I feel that while my style is defined and changes, I build very different collections in which my person is reflected a lot. Although a city, a book or a plant may inspire me in my collections, I never follow a precise pattern to create them.

Do you feel identified with what is being done now? Any particular designers you admire? Yes, I feel identified with what’s trending right now. When I stop to reflect and compare, I find many nuances but I don’t even know how to mention them because they remain unconscious and I repeat it without realizing it.

Are you planning to stay in Spain to continue developing your career or do you want to try others? Where would you go? I think I left Spain for many years before jumping to another country, I have to grow a lot and work because the day it happens has to be a solid step. But if I had to choose, London first and Milan second.

What do you think of Spanish fashion? I think there is a lot of talent in Spain and unfortunately we always keep our eyes open. I was at MBFW watching the shows and it’s very similar to what you see in major fashion weeks around the world, but for whatever reason everything here costs a little more.

What do you think the Maarouf 103 designs have that will set them apart from the rest? My projects are very much characterized by utility. Most of the pieces are reversible and removable which means that with one piece you can create several and shape it according to your style. And I think that over time it will make room and be a hallmark of the company.

If you could choose, which company would you like to collaborate with? Without a doubt ottolinger1000 or Didu. As for the national scene, I wouldn’t even know how to choose! There are thousands that I love like Studio Department, Emeerree, Dominico …

What will be the next step for Maarouf 103? My next step is to show up at MBFW Madrid to show.

Where would you like to see yourself in ten years? And what would your little dream be in the short term? In 10 years I would like to be in Paris with my workshop and become a haute couture company, but I think it will happen no earlier than 20 years. In the short term undoubtedly Madrid Fashion Week.
