Sports day, here are the 8 activities that keep you fit without impacting the environment

The UN General Assembly dedicates the day of April 6 to the beauty of sport, not only as a training tool, but also as a “vehicle for collective development and peace between individuals who are also very different from each other.” In short, the Sport is beautiful, but we also want it to be green. Real?

Increase, teach to share, the taste of defeat, the glories of victory and more: sport is also and above all an instrument of peace, something that unites various peoples and makes them dialogue. All this in light of the fact that the objective of these peoples must necessarily also be a better and more sustainable planet. Goal that can also be achieved by choosing the greatest number of sports green. But wich ones?

In this spirit, in 2013 it was the General Assembly of the United Nations that proclaimed the April 6 International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The UN thus recognizes the power of sport to drive social change, community development and the promotion of peace and understanding.

Sport has the power to align our passion, energy and enthusiasm around a collective cause. And it is precisely here where we can nurture hope and regain confidence. It is in our collective interest to harness the enormous power of sport to help build a better and more sustainable future for all, says United Nations Under-Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.

What are the most ecological sports? Here is a list of the 8 activities that keep you fit without impacting the environment:

The race

If walking is low impact, running will necessarily be too. Duty cleared on lockdown, on in a hurry practically everyone does it today. Parkour

Very “urban” and very green, this sport is already one of the most ecological activities that exist. Walls, stairs, benches, everything in the city can be transformed into a training room, free of charge. Parkour is a variation of military training developed at the beginning of the 20th century, then it was the gymnast and double action David Belle who adapted the elements theorized by Hébert and made parkour a true discipline popular all over the world.

Mount!

More than a sport, a lifestyle: cycling is the most ecological activity that exists, because it also allows you to cover longer trips without damaging the environment.

People who walk or bike have a lower carbon footprint on their daily commute. According to research, it would be enough for one in five urban residents to permanently change their travel habits in the coming years for Europe to reduce its emissions from car travel by 8%.

plogging

(i.e. jogging picking up litter). That’s right: if you love jogging and haven’t caught on to a trend from Sweden yet, do it now. This is a plogging that, along with normal running (but a brisk walk is fine too), combines abandoned garbage collection. Plogging is a word that actually joins two: jogging Y boot up, which in Swedish means “pick up”. Plogging is nothing more than an original sports activity that combines attention to the environment with normal physical exercise.
